So I'm planning to volunteer in Thailand after my stint in Motor*** and one of the organisations asked me to write a one-pager introduction about myself so that they can share with the locals there. So how do you think I fare?
Hi there! I’m Sharon, a Singaporean who graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language. While the most obvious choice of work was to be a writer, journalist or even a teacher, I chose a very different path as a marketer. Though I’m not academically trained in marketing, my language foundation was definitely advantageous when it came to pitching marketing ideas and narratives.
I have since embarked on my journey of more than 10 years in brand building and content creation and have never looked back. Highly motivated and results oriented, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, I am a firm believer of crafting narratives that elevate brands through various consumer touchpoints from social media to advertising to live experiences. I have experience across diverse industries from hospitality to beauty to F&B to tech and specialising in fashion retail. My last role was the Marketing Communications and PR Manager at an automotive app company and I’m currently taking a break.
With no concrete plans as to when I would want to return to the daily nine-to-five working grind, I was hoping to utilise this break to rediscover myself, experience different parts of the world and explore opportunities to help make some impact on someone's life.
I’m fluent in English and Mandarin (both spoken and written) and have done a short stint as a relief teacher in schools with students between 7 - 16 years of age. With a strong interest in languages, I also hope to pick up some basic Thai from the locals and students. As discussed with Sven, I would be open to assisting in social media, PR and teaching English (or even Mandarin if there is a need!)
Some fun facts about me: I love travelling and learning about the cultures and history of other countries. I enjoy team sports and activities despite not being an athletic nor agile person. I am a coke classic addict although bubble tea and beer are close seconds and I really don’t enjoy water.
