Busy busy weekend~ attended 2 weddings.
Saturday was the wedding of one of my good friend, Sylvia. At the tender age of 21, she got married. It's pretty unbelievable right? Also it seemed pretty common that nowadays people get hitched in clubs. Usually I dun believe that these couples last, but there are at least 2 such couples who got married in my life. Amazing but true..
I was one of the 姐妹 and had to wake up super early that morning to go to Sylvia's house. And I was pretty much quite excited cos' that's my first time doing it. (yes, I know at my age, if it's the first, it's weird) Thankfully her house is not exactly that far. Reached there and the place is bustling with activities. Laurel, the girl that I met before the wedding, was already in full action. Sigh, I felt so weird.
Thankfully things started to get busy and the guys arrived pretty much on time. They came up and we did the regular haggling of prices for the key to open the door. Finally settled for $238 + $70 for the games. Gin, one of the relatives who was also the 姐妹 came up with the idea of hiding the key in a huge block of ice. Hence, to open the door, the brothers have to thaw the ice to retrieve the key and the rule is that they can't break the ice. So they tried all sorts of ways like rubbing the block with hands and what not. It was comical.
Anyway the girls then left them to continue their task, thinking that if they can't get the key within 10 minutes, then we'll just give them the spare key. Suddenly a surge of commotion and the guys managed to get the key. One smart alec managed to think of buying hot water from the coffeeshop below to thaw the ice. Not too bad huh?
Eric then had to serenade Sy with songs from this Taiwanese guy who is famous for his romantic ballads. Funny thing is nobody except probably me, Eric, Sy and Willie (one of the brothers) heard of this singer. I mean they're so ang moh that they have absolutely no idea of Chinese singers. Whispers of 'Who is that?' can be heard coming from both the brothers and sisters. I mean do they live in this world?
Anyway the groom finally gets to see his bride. The whole entourage then proceeded to Eric's house and Laurel and I were assigned to be in the car of Desmond, one of Eric's brother and the one that Sy has been telling me all about.
When we arrived, the group started to marvel at Eric's house. Feels a bit funny cos' even though I was astonished at the size of that giant house, it's weird to hear people talking about it. Yup, indeed the house looked much bigger in the day time as compared to the time when I came to play mahjong at night. Nice house, branded furniture, lucky Sylvia.
Did the tea ceremony and waited for the time to pass before heading back to Sy's house. House was overcrowded with people. Laurel and I headed straight to the room and rested. Couple did the tea ceremony and cos Desmond and Willie were waiting for us to fetch us home, we went off before the end of the ceremony.
Reached home and felt so awake. Persuaded myself to sleep because of the evening dinner. Slept for an hour before waking up to watch TV. Then finally pull myself out of the house to do my hair. Did a Victorian hairdo and went to the dinner. Reached at around 7+ cos had a hard time finding a parking slot. Seated myself next to Laurel at the reception, hoping to make myself useful. It's pretty weird that I dunno anyone from this wedding but yet I'm one of the sisters. Anyway helped out and dinner served around 8.30pm.
Entire thing ended around 11.30pm. Disappointing that there wasn't any sabotage from anyone. Was so tired at the end of the day and the makeup totally melted. Was feeling a bit disgusted with myself. Thankfully someone drove me home and I didn't had to scare anyone with the melted makeup.
Sleep......
