666 Days of Void

Coincidentally, it's been 666 days since I last updated my blog. So many things have happened since. Almost 2 years down the road, I wondered if my life has been a joke.

Just 1 year short of 4 decades, I looked at how much I've not achieved. Will I, at my deathbed, feel that my life has been a good one? I'm not sure.

Anyway, here's a recap of the things that happened in my life

Environment
COVID-19 badly hit Singapore in early 2020. Was scheduled for a trip to Taipei in Mar 2020 but was advised to cancel it in case we can't come back to SG. So I thought that was gonna be temporary. Fast forward to now, it's been more than a year and we still cannot travel. SG also went through a total lockdown in 2020 Apr - Jun and subsequently different phases of restrictions. Life has totally changed and many are still trying to get used to it, like wearing a mask all the time and not able to have big gatherings, etc. Community cases currently stand at 15, so until it falls below 10, I doubt we will get to back normalcy.

Work
So after about 6 months into the job, I know that this company is really not for me. People are ok - pretty nice, bosses are decent but after staying in a more structured MNC for 8 years, I realised that I really cannot blend in with the SME culture anymore. But when COVID-19 struck, and my counterpart quitting, I was tasked to takeover his job responsibilities and I thought I found more meaning in work. And I did, for about 6 months. Worked really hard, even when everybody else was not working, I pressed on. But when SG came out of lockdown, the boss started to forgot the hard work I've put in. I soon realised that I was no longer valued and job recognition has always been a strong motivating factor for me. Plus the fact that the job don't even pay as well as my last job, I don't see the reason to stay on. So now, I'm looking out. Since the current job market don't seem promising, I'll just stay on while hunting for a new job.

Personal Life
Nothing much has changed. I said if I don't get pregnant by 38, I will not pursue it further. So I guess that's true. I guess the lockdown period also kinda changed my perspective. If we had gone our separate ways in Jan 2020, then the lockdown period would have been a lot harder for me. I reckon I wouldn't have a place to stay in my parents' so I would rent a room by myself. And without anyone to talk to, I might go crazy during that month. So now we're on talking terms and I'm no longer harsh on him. Amicable but not exactly how a couple would be like. *Spiderwebs forming~lalalala

Friends
The pandemic has kinda also changed the people that I hanged out with. In 2019, I was hanging around my JC mates quite a lot. Travelling, meals, games, etc - I met them almost every week. But with lesser and lesser escape games to satisfy us and the government's restriction on pax count for gatherings, we met lesser in 2020 and 2021. We did try to play online games but that couldn't make up for the times we gel.
Somehow along the way, I started to hang out with Fabian and Freddy more. It kinda almost replaced the times I hung out with Fabian, Gerald, Jun and Celine, if not more. The couple really enjoyed having people over and I met many more friends through such gatherings. Started with this lady and bf who wants to MJ and I was almost the perfect last ka. While the MJ sessions stop, I continued to join their gatherings due to the proximity of their house. Even now when gatherings are limited by pax count, I frequented their house so much so that YP automatically assumes that my Fridays and Saturdays are with them. Oh, I also joined them to start a FB page called 娘家好介绍 introducing fun things, good food and all. I also really enjoyed being in videos of unboxing and challenges, check out our Father's Day video where I had to be the judge of good and bad presents.

For my lovely devils, we still talk regularly in whatsapp but I guess I've grown tremendously close to Huiyi in 2019. While Chai will continue to be an important friend till my death, Huiyi has become someone who I will share all everything including my deepest secrets. Even after I left Triumph, I still texted her all the time and even played MJ with her and the family a couple of times. For her birthday in 2020, I even disguised as a grab delivery to send her birthday cakes!

Highlights
  • Participated in Hello Kitty Moonwalk 2019. While I did sign up for the first Hello Kitty Run, I didn't go because YP wasn't free. So Just nice it was near Mid-Autumn festival and hence we were given lanterns while we walked. Super crowded but I thought it was great as we strolled with the evening breeze. I even wore my Hello Kitty X Converse shoes for the first time!

  • Went for 2 informal concerts with Min, Bing, LL and YP. Had so much fun as they were outdoors and not as rigid. Unfortunately one of the places we went didn't survive the pandemic and had to close. But just you know, Starkers, you have provided me with many good memories in Zhongshan Park and HillV2. Oh and I heard Qiu Fengze and FIR live!

  • Had my last trip out of SG to Malacca in Nov/Dec 2019. Was a short road trip to fulfil my wish of visiting Charlie Baba. Finally I get to eat the kueh kuehs after so many years. Their ondeh ondeh is slurpz. Try it if you can. Also went back to Jonker 88, really missed their Assam Laksa. Finally places that YP also agreed with. The hotel we stayed at was really nice too - TheBlanc Boutique Hotel. Exactly at the end of Jonker Street so getting around was super easy.

  • Weddings! Witnessed the matrimonial union of Li Young and Celine. Both are colleagues turned friends and I'm so glad that they've found their better halves. One of COT's last bachelor Wei Xian also got married to Rayne. Now only left with Liren. Also Erica got married too. It's fascinating that I actually knew her when she was single and knew her love story.

  • And in this period whereby we can't travel, the local online business is growing. So I did my first Shopee Live. As usual, I looked really awkward on video but I guess it's all for the experience.
