Day 5
An exciting day for us as we are going to learn how to cook Japanese cuisine! While shopping and visiting tourist attractions used to appeal to me, I'm now very into experiential travelling. So when many online information points to Kyoto cooking classes, I was thrilled.
So after much research, I signed up with Wa Experience KAFU. They do offer other Japanese classes like Ikebana and calligraphy if you are interested.
So they responded quite promptly after I have registered on their website. They will ask if you have any dietary preferences and send you the menu of the class. We had the autumn menu which is kinda vegetarian, but I would love to learn how to cook some Japanese meats next time.
- Chestnut rice
- Clear soup
- Mushroom and Green leaf with soy and yuzu sauce
- Rolled omelet
- Grilled tofu with Koya tofu sauce
So the school is nestled amongst old school Kyoto houses and you might miss it if you don't look carefully.

We were given printed copies of the menu and every ingredient was properly measured and placed at the side for the participants. You'll also get to eat all the food after you are done. The experience was fin but it could have been better if there were more "hands-on". I felt a bit silly to just pour things according to the instructors given by the teacher.

But nonetheless, both DarHub and I enjoyed ourselves and we still cooked 玉子焼き often at home!
So after the class, we took a slow stroll in the area before heading to 伏見 稲荷 to see the famous tori (shrine) gates!

| Tangerine-like tree growing in a roadside river/stream |
| Halloween Pokemon |
So it was a scenic walk, though long and tiring, and I really appreciate the air and freshness of the place. Though crowded, the place was still clean and relatively quiet. I guess that's something that we should learn from the Japanese!

The day was supposed to end with visit to 清水寺, but it was already getting a bit dark as we were leaving . In the end, we just went back to the hotel and shopped at the food section of the departmental store for dinner! That section is so amazing with so many food options. Word has it that the later you go, the cheaper the food!
